New 7,000 SF parish hall addition to an existing Catholic church (with Cornwell Callahan Architects). The design includes a vaulted, overhead cupola-lit, 3,000 SF hall space, with supporting smaller meeting spaces, kitchen, atrium, offices, and circulation spaces.
Grace Episcopal Church Code Analysis, Traverse City, MI 1996
Building code compliance review for an existing church building located near downtown Traverse City. The resulting report provided a summary of the building’s current code compliance status and offered suggestions for selective alterations toward improved compliance.
Liturgical Furnishings for Immaculate Conception Church, Traverse City, MI 1996
New marble ambo designed for the existing sanctuary. The design re-utilizes cream-colored marble slabs removed in the mid-nineteen seventies from the church’s original sanctuary and side chapels.
Addition to United Methodist Church, Charlevoix, MI 1996-7 [with Peninsula Construction]
New 4,700 SF (on ground floor, plus partial basement level) fellowship hall and multi-purpose addition to an existing church in Charlevoix, Michigan. The design includes classrooms, offices, conference rooms, kitchen, refreshment area, toilet and shower rooms in addition to a large, basement level gathering space and ground floor level fellowship hall opening into the existing main sanctuary space.

New wood processional cross and base designed and constructed (with Laurence Skendzel, wood turner) for use in Sacred Heart Parish church on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.
Cedar Run Eye Center Meditation Chapel, Traverse City, MI 1997
Design for a small chapel in a new ophthalmology clinic in Traverse City. The design incorporates byzantine-inspired geometric design and color with a vaulted ceiling and niches for the placement of devotional images and icons.

5,000 SF church building addition, including a new church entrance, gathering space, baptistery, sanctuary, and expanded fellowship hall for an existing Catholic church in Frankfort, MI. The project also included a new reconciliation room, Pastor’s office, kitchen, storage, mechanical room, and related support spaces.
St. Clare Chapel, St. Francis High School, Traverse City, MI 2005
New 50 seat chapel within the existing St. Francis High School building. The chapel was designed for small group worship and private devotion, and includes a custom-designed wood altar and ambo.
Immaculate Conception Church Balcony Alterations, Traverse City, MI 2006
Architectural design services for alterations to the balcony within an existing Catholic church in Traverse City. Improvements were made to the plan layout as well as to the vertical riser design to facilitate the liturgical function and acoustic characteristics of organ, voice, and bell choir.

Architectural design for selective demolition and a new, gable-roofed entrance to an existing Catholic church building in the diocese of Saginaw, Michigan. Schematic architectural designs were also proposed for interior alterations to the existing church nave and sanctuary.
Family Monument and Headstones, 2009
Designs for a family cemetery monument and individual headstones for the Skendzel family of Traverse City, Michigan. The monuments are designed to be cut from granite and feature Christian symbols and text from the Gospel of St. John and the writings of Pope Benedict XVI (project not built).

Liturgical furnishings design for a new altar. Crafted from a solid wood base with mortise-and-tenon joints and a travertine top, the 6-foot by 3-foot altar evokes religious symbolism through cruciform details and traditional craftsmanship.

Architectural design for alterations to the sanctuary, gathering, and fellowship areas of an existing historic church building (originally designed by noted church architect, Charles Stade, and built in 1962), as well as a building addition to house offices, meeting rooms, as well as improved toilet facilities.

Schematic architectural design for a new covered canopy entrance, and gathering for an existing, 300 seat church building. The design also proposed significant alterations to the existing nave and sanctuary, including relocation of the sanctuary, and design of new liturgical furnishings (altar and ambo) as well as a wood paneled reredos wall, and baldachin (ciborium) above.
Shining Mountains Lutheran Church, Bozeman, MT 2011-12 (for Massmann Studios)
Site master planning studies and architectural design for proposed new church building seating 200, with phase-II expansion plans for seating an additional 100 persons. The design took into consideration aspects of the site/community context as well as issues of liturgical function, hospitality, future expandability, and economy of construction.

Architectural and liturgical furnishings design for the renovation of an existing sanctuary seating approximately 200 persons. The project involved selective demolition and new construction, with an emphasis on the interior worship environment: its liturgical function, spatial arrangement, proportions, symbolism, materials and finishes. Acoustical analysis and design recommendations were provided by Scott R. Riedel & Associates, Ltd., Milwaukee, WI.
Trinity Lutheran Church, Waukesha, WI 2011-13 (for Massmann Studios)
Architectural and liturgical furnishings design for a new bell tower, church entry, and chapel within an existing, 600 seat church facility. the renovation of an existing sanctuary seating approximately 200 persons. The project involved selective demolition and new construction of a 100-foot tall tower, with a new, attached, covered entrance canopy.
Hosanna Lutheran Church, Monclova, OH 2011-13 (for Massmann Studios)
Site planning and architectural design for a 5,400 SF addition to an existing church building. The new addition includes an improved building entrance, narthex, and 190 seat sanctuary. The renovated existing church sanctuary will serve as a new fellowship hall, with expanded kitchen and lower level meeting and storage space.

Architectural design for a 3,200 SF addition to an existing 320 seat church building. The new addition includes a new church entrance, with exterior covered canopy, and an expanded gathering and meeting area. Renovations to the existing church sanctuary are also included, as well as improvements to the church narthex, fellowship hall, coat room. and toilet facilities.
Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Moncks Corner, SC 2012-13 (for Massmann Studios)
Architectural design for a 10,000 SF, 232 seat church building. The new church includes a large gathering space, kitchen, and classrooms. Also included is an 86-foot high, free-standing bell tower. The project includes extensive site improvements including driveways, parking areas, landscaped courts and gardens.
Redeemer Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND 2012-13 (for Massmann Studios)
Architectural design for a 10,200 SF addition to an existing church building. The addition includes a new sanctuary with seating for 288, as well as a gathering space, coffee area, nursery and cry rooms. Support spaces include a sacristy, offices, and rooms for storage and maintenance. The lower level of the addition is slated for future classrooms. The existing sanctuary will be used as a new fellowship hall, with new classrooms proposed for the existing basement space.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Midland, MI 2013-14 (for Massmann Studios)
Architectural design for a 3,670 SF addition to an existing Lutheran church building in Midland, Michigan. The new work includes an enlarged sanctuary (seating 246, plus an optional balcony), a large gathering space, balcony stair tower, music area, new building entrance, improved toilet facilities and offices. The project also includes site alterations, including an enlarged parking area, courtyard, and enhanced landscaping features.

Architectural design for a sanctuary and chancel renovations, including new chancel furnishings and wood and ceramic tile flooring. The project also included master planning services for future building additions and site development.
